What is a Detox and How Does it Work?

Lately, you may have heard about the detox diet and its benefits, but you may still be wondering what is it and what its benefits are. Now, what is a Detox? A Detox is a cleansing or detoxification strategy for the body, different from a diet.

Doing a detox is nothing new. Cleansing the body is a practice from many years ago, and has proven to have many benefits to the body.

The Detox of the body starts by limiting caloric intake that allows the body to focus on cleansing rather than digesting. Digestion is one of the biggest drains of our energy in our regular life. Once the body is free from that task, it uses that energy to cleanse itself.

A Detox is structured for your body because it receives all the nutrients that it needs, in the context of caloric restriction. This combination of deep nutrition and body cleansing is a powerful tool for transformation.

Detox Programs

Detox programs are not complicated. Nonetheless, they require some effort. For it to be a real detox, your body has to get the deep rest that it needs, and this requires a specific internal and external environment.

General Guidelines

Detox programs offer the body the necessary conditions for it to expel stored toxins from the cells, and anywhere else.

You achieve this through a two-pronged approach consisting of reducing food intake and increasing rest. This combination allows your body to use its vital energy in a direction other than the attempt to digest food, which is the number one energy drain.

When the body has access to this newfound (not wasted) energy, it uses it to clean its house, and this is the DETOX. You might feel much more energized than usual through the program, but donʼt drain yourself doing exercise during these days. Your primary intention is to conserve energy so the body can use it for cleansing itself.

During a Detox Program, try to take as many naps as possible, avoid any unnecessary social engagements or demands on your time and attention. These days are for YOU! So do some Yoga and meditations, enjoy delicious smoothies, and the time for yourself. Living free of patterns and habits is very liberating, so enjoy taking this opportunity to give your body and mind a deep cleanse.

What Are the Main Signs That We Need to do A Detox?

-Headaches

-Digestive problems (constipation, abdominal bloating, heavy digestions, etc.)

-Overweight

-Stress or chronic fatigue

-Lack of energy and vitality

-Bad mood

-Dry and dull skin

What Foods can You Eat on a Detox Diet?

Here are some foods that help detoxify our bodies:

-Fresh, dry, and dehydrated fruits

-Nuts and seeds

-Fresh vegetables

-Vegetable fats

-100% natural juices, smoothies

-Infusions

Keep in mind that any detoxification involves the part where you are going to fast, meaning no food. If you want to be aggressive, no food and no water, lay in bed. That is a real detox, and that is the most aggressive one of all.
