How Yoga Can Fulfill Your New Year’s Resolutions

Making New Year’s resolutions is easy. Keeping them after January is not. Many of us start the year with a purpose. However, setting out to do something is not enough.

Besides determination, we need the right tools to help us stay on track. In that sense, yoga is a great tool and support for changes in your lifestyle.

Whatever your goal is (to lose weight, to exercise, to rest more, to be happier…), yoga can help you transform your purpose into a permanent reality.

It doesn’t matter if you are an expert or never stood on a mat before. You can take advantage of yoga to achieve your new lifestyle goals. If you need some ideas for your New Year’s resolutions, here are 6 options that yoga can help you out:

-Begin to meditate

Meditation makes you wiser, clears your mind, improves memory, and gives you the energy to face daily challenges.

The problem is that many times we say: “I don’t have time to meditate,” but the fact is that you have. You can re-establish your priorities, and your time for meditation should be a priority.

My advice is to make your meditation time, one of the equally relevant meetings you have in your week. This way, it will be much easier to accomplish the goal. If you’ve meditated before, try to learn new ways of meditation.

-Be happier

If you want to be a happier person, your wandering mind is probably your biggest obstacle. Yoga is based on mindfulness and awareness that emphasizes using your breath to connect with the present moment. It also teaches you how to breathe deeper and use techniques to reduce stress and increase happiness hormones.

-Be healthier

Whether you’re looking to reduce stress, have more energy, or lose weight, studies found that yoga is useful for these issues.

The yoga approach about body awareness and the present moment can help improve self-control and avoid anxiety eating habits, which are necessary for improving health. Also, some styles, such as the Power Yoga sequence that I teach, can increase muscle mass and burn more calories.

-Make friends

If you would like to have more friends this year, going to your local studio or joining a Yoga Program can make a huge difference!

Any of our Yoga Teacher Trainings, for example, is formed under a sense of community. The coexistence between classes and learning together is the ideal field to promote relationships between students. Also, yoga tends to attract like-minded people, so relationships flourish effortlessly.

-Learn something new

Whenever we think of a new year, we think about uncovering new and enrich things.

Maybe the practice of yoga is new to you. If that’s the case, there’s your purpose! But if you have practiced it for a while, there are still opportunities to expand your knowledge. You can explore energy chakras, practice new asanas, or even become a yoga teacher. Check the “Calendar” section on this website, and you will find the dates for the next Yoga Teacher Training!

-Be more grateful

Being grateful is an attitude. Yoga can help you live with a feeling of gratitude through your Sadhana.

Your Sadhana includes everything that you do for your spiritual practice, and there are no days off for Sadhana, ever. Don’t take a day off in giving thanks to God. Being grateful will help you overcome adversity, get along better with others, and improve your quality of life.

Whatever your purpose is, if you need inspiration and support to continue with your goals after January and make a permanent change, try including more yoga into your daily life.
