A free weekly yoga class for active,
inactive and retired military
Connected Warrior classes are specialized yoga flows to help war fighters control their emotions and reactions and help reintegrate into civilian life.
The effects of an overseas deployment can often last for years. Soldiers often have unwelcome thoughts, emotions and memories - these yoga techniques can be used to recall whole, healthy and intact memories that have not been touched by trauma.
This free yoga class focuses on learning skills proven to help you connect to the present - leaving anxiety behind while learning to feel safe and in control. By lowering your hyper-vigilance and your reaction to noise and stress, you will sleep better and have more control over your emotions. All military personnel and their families are welcome.
How does the Connected Warrior Program Operate
We deliver free yoga classes to veterans and their families across the country by soliciting the support of local studios, community centers or VA centers in communities where we find veterans and volunteer yoga teachers. We rely on local yoga teachers to support the free classes, which often include a number of volunteer assistants based on the age and mobility of the students.
What are our financial contributions used for?
We have used local donations to fund the start-up of three regional classes. The current start-up costs include two general components - the marketing materials to solicit local veterans and their families to participate in the classes and the purchase of yoga mats and props. Of course, this all depends on a critical mass of volunteer yoga teachers and assistants in the local area. While the Connected Warrior classes originated at Yoga South in Boca Raton they now include classes at Red Pearl Yoga in Fort Lauderdale and Moksha Yoga in Wellington.
Are our contributions deductible?
At this time contributions are not currently deductible, we are however a charitable organization. We will spend all contributions on actual costs to broaden awareness of this program to the veteran and volunteer teacher communities and to start-up and maintain teaching locations nationwide.
How can I get involved with helping the Connected Warriors program?
If you are a certified yoga teacher, we ask for a one year commitment. You will receive one day of specialized training and we will fund and support the initial classes with equipment and assist with the marketing that may be necessary to fill local free classes. If you would like to volunteer please contact bethany@theconnectedwarriors.org or call (954) 465-3329. If you would like to donate your facility to host a free weekly one hour yoga class for veterans and their families, please contact bethany@theconnectedwarriors.org or call (954) 465-3329.
Even small cash donations can make a substantial difference to our veterans and their
families. The benefits of yoga are well established and we have a long list of students of
all ages that are happy to discuss the positive benefits they have experienced. We
welcome any and all contributions and thank the community for supporting this grass
roots effort. You can reach us through Paypal at www.theconnectedwarriors.org or
contact us directly using email at bethany@theconnectedwarriors.com or call (954) 465-3329.
